You Can Run But
You Can't Hide From Razor

Once again Constable Mark Lawson and his able police dog Razor are in the limelight after capturing a bank robber minutes after robbing a bank and fleeing from the scene.

Cst Lawson and Razor on days off, just happened to be in the area of the TD Bank, located at the Terminal Park Mall, when they heard the robbery being broadcast to police officers. Information broadcast sent out to officers was of a male who entered the bank, approached a clerk and demanded money. No weapon was produced but the suspect gestured as if there was one. The male soon fled from the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and made his way on foot towards the E&N railway tracks.

Cst Lawson attended and within minutes of arriving, was actively tracking the suspect. With the assistance of some civilians he and Razor were able to narrow down where they believed the suspect was.

Approximately 20 minutes after fleeing the bank, the suspect was caught hiding in the back yard of a residence and taken into custody. Members were also able to locate and seize various items believed linked to the robbery .

“This was a perfect example of police and civilians coming together to solve crime. The bank immediately and professionally reported it ,our members responded within minutes and civilians used their observation and communication skills to assist police which lead to the timely arrest of this person “ said Constable Gary O’Brien media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.

A 28 year old resident of Nanaimo, currently of no fixed address was taken into custody and will appear before a Provincial court judge today on one count of Robbery

With respect to Cst Lawson being in the limelight, this was in reference to his successful efforts last Thursday in finding a 71 female who had become lost while hiking in the Lantzville highlands.
