Westwood Power and Marine ATV Heist Interrupted

One Male Arrested
Two Still Being Sought

One male is in custody after the attempted theft of four ATV’s from a Nanaimo business early Monday morning .

At approximately 2:40am a night employee of a Shenton Rd area business reported seeing three men loading an ATV into a waiting van, outside Westwood Power and Marine Ltd on Shenton Road. The Nanaimo RCMP responded immediately, arriving on scene while the theft was still in progress. The three males fled on foot however Police Dog Razor and his handler Cst Mark Lawson had other plans and quickly apprehended one male hiding in a nearby swamp.The other two were able to flee without being apprehended.

In the ensuing investigation, it was determined the culprits gained access to the compound at Westwood Power and Marine on Shenton Rd and took for of their ATV’s. One ATV was located in a van parked at the scene while the other three were later located in a nearby cube van.The van located on site had been previously stolen from Devon Transport Ltd on Shenton Road and the cube van stolen from a Western Forest Products’ operation in Campbell River.

A 29 year old male from Delta, BC was arrested at the scene and transported to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for treatment of a dog bite. He was later released from custody on a Promise to Appear for Break, and Enter and Theft over $5000. Two other males related to this incident are still being sought by police. “It is believed the two remaining males are from the Campbell River area and are very active in the theft of quads, and outdoor equipment up and down Vancouver Island”, said Cst Gary O’Brien, Media Spokesperson, Nanaimo RCMP."We are confident they will be identified and arrested in the near future" said O'Brien.
