Poor Turnout At Advance Poll Shameful

Only 214 Votes Cast

The first advance polling opportunity at Dodd Narrows Room in the conference centre would indicate that Nanaimo is not getting all that interested in the upcoming by-election for City Council.

When you consider that at this very moment people are risking life and limb for the privilege of having a say in how they are governed our apathy is reproachable.

There is an excellent group of candidates taking time from their own lives to contribute something to their community and it seems at best, a yawn, is the most we can muster.
The next advance poll is Wed. March 23 from 8:00 am - 8:00 pm in the Dodd Narrows Room at the Conference Centre on Commercial Street.

Take the time to get to know the candidates, get to know the real issues and make an effort to do YOUR part in democracy by being informed and being involved. If all that means is casting your ballot, the burden is hardly unbearable.

If you don't participate in the system you automatically give up your right to bitch and complain when you don't like the decisions made by elected officials.

  1. This is probably because most citizen are fed up with the new breed of politician.
I have always wondered why all of city hall is closed on the weekend. No other place that is servicing their customers properly services does this!

  2. This anonymous character sure has a lot to say in our community!

  3. It could be there are more than one of them. :^)Perhaps they will all run in the next civic election.

He also seems to have the roles of City Councilors, who likely never get a complete weekend free, and city staff, who do, a bit confused.
