Upcoming Concerts Means Busy Ferry Traffic

Paul McCartney & Bruce Springsteen Concerts
Make For Loaded Ferry Traffic From Island

VICTORIA – BC Ferries is advising islanders who will be travelling to Vancouver for the Paul McCartney concert on November 25 and the Bruce Springsteen concert on November 26 to plan ahead.

In addition to the regular schedule, BC Ferries has added extra sailings on the Tsawwassen – Swartz Bay route to accommodate anticipated traffic demand. Four vessels will service this route on Sunday, November 25 to provide hourly service from mid-morning to early evening from the Swartz Bay terminal where demand is expected to be strong. On Monday, November 26, three ships will service the route to assist customers returning from the McCartney concert and those travelling to the Springsteen concert.

“We strongly recommend that concert-goers travelling with a vehicle make a reservation to ensure smooth sailing on the day of their event,” said Corrine Storey, BC Ferries’ Vice President of Customer Services. “Those customers travelling without a reservation are encouraged to travel early in the day to avoid disappointment.”

Departure Bay terminal is expected to be extremely busy between 10:30 am and 5:00 pm on Sunday, November 25. Customers travelling to and from Nanaimo are reminded that sailings between Duke Point and Tsawwassen tend to be less congested than sailings between Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay at peak times.

The long-term parking at Departure Bay may be limited on Sunday, November 25, so foot passengers are encouraged to use public transit or drop-off services as much as possible. For those who require parking, additional Robbins parking lots in Nanaimo are available at the Bastion parkade (236 Bastion Street) and the bus depot/Howard Johnson (#1 Terminal Avenue).

BC Ferries has posted a travel advisory notice on its homepage for more information about travelling to and from these special events. For full schedule details and reservations, visit Nanaimo Info HERE.
