Antony Holland's 95th Birthday Performance

ACTOR ANTONY HOLLAND TO CELEBRATE 95th BIRTHDAY IN PERFORMANCE AT WESTERN EDGE THEATRE

Antony receiving Order of Canada
Actor and recent Order of Canada winner Antony Holland will celebrate his 95th birthday on Saturday, March 28th in Nanaimo by doing what he has always done best – acting.
Holland will appear with two other theatre veterans, Garry Davey and Frank Moher, in a staged reading of the gleefully dark comedy-drama “The Caretaker” by Harold Pinter. The performance will be followed by a birthday party for Holland, to which everyone is invited.

The event is hosted by Nanaimo’s Western Edge Theatre, with which Holland has had a long association. Before the company’s first season, he performed his one-man show “Sharing Shakespeare” to raise funds for it. He later appeared in its hit production of “Tuesdays with Morrie,” before repeating the performance at Vancouver's Arts Club Theatre and earning a Jessie Award for Best Actor. Most recently he brought his latest solo show, “One Man in his Time,” to Western Edge, recounting in story and song his experiences as a British soldier in World War II.

Last September, Holland travelled to Ottawa to receive the Order of Canada from Governor-general David Johnston. “When they first phoned me,” he told the Victoria Times-Colonist, “I said, ‘I think you made a mistake. I’m a West Coast actor and I direct and perform in B.C. — it’s usually the Toronto guys who get this stuff.’”

Holland is also a member of the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame. He lives on Gabriola Island, where he continues to run his No Bells and Whistles Theatre Company.

The staged reading and birthday celebration, also a fundraiser for Western Edge, begins at 7 pm on March 28th at Kismet Theatre Academy, 55 Victoria Rd., Nanaimo. Everyone is welcome. Admission is by donation at the door.
