Celebrating the best of Nanaimo’s culture and heritage

On Thursday, April 9, 2015, the City of Nanaimo will recognize the best of Nanaimo’s culture and heritage with the 2015 Culture & Heritage Awards Ceremony.  The ceremony, an evening of recognition and local entertainment, will be held in the Port Theatre at 7:00 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm) to honour the following recipients:

EMERGING CULTURAL LEADER – Amanda Scott. Award is presented to up-and-coming leaders who have contributed significantly to the new landscape of cultural life in Nanaimo.

HONOUR IN CULTURE – Arlene Blundell. Award is presented to an individual, group or corporation that is known for their dedication and support of the cultural fabric of Nanaimo.

EXCELLENCE IN CULTURE – Grant Leier & Nixie Barton. Award is presented to an organization or individual that has achieved regional and/or national recognition in the field of arts and culture.

HERITAGE BUILDING REHABILITATION (Residential) – McCourt Residence, owned by Andrea Saam-Lawry and Tim Lawry. Awards are designed to formally recognize the efforts made by individual property owners to conserve and rehabilitate Nanaimo’s heritage buildings.

HERITAGE BUILDING REHABILITATION (Institutional) – St. Paul’s Anglican Church, owned by the Anglican Diocese of BC. Awards are designed to formally recognize the efforts made by individual property owners to conserve and rehabilitate Nanaimo’s heritage buildings.
