Early call for help aided in rescue
Two family members were returning from a hike in Ammonite Falls Regional Park on the afternoon of April 12, 2017 when they became lost. Around 8:00 p.m. and after wandering for about 2 hours they placed a call to Nanaimo RCMP seeking assistance. Nanaimo RCMP then contacted Nanaimo Search and Rescue for support in locating the pair.
“The hikers called RCMP early on in their ordeal which significantly aided in locating them. They were found in good spirits but cold”, said Ken Duncan the Search Manager for Nanaimo Search and Rescue.
Nanaimo RCMP would like to remind outdoor enthusiasts to be prepared. Wear appropriate clothing, anticipate poor weather and carry extra water and food. A detailed written trip plan left with a friend provides crucial information to rescue crews should you become injured or lost.
